Smell From Penis Post Circumcision
However, I am getting more and more concerned about the weird smell. It's not very strong, but I definitely notice it. It kind of reminds me of the fishy smell my penis would have before I was circumcised on certain hot summer days. Proper hygeine usually took care of that though.

There is also a mild burning feel toward the tip of the penis in addition to the smell. Is this an infection? The sources I've read recommend contacting a doctor if a strong foul odor is apparent following the circumcision. I'm guessing I have been affected. I hear this is not unusual and another batch of anti bioitics should do the trick.
As far as the look of it, there it is still pretty swollen. I'm continuing my salt water baths 2x a day to help aid that. If anyone has any tips or similar experiences dealing with the smell & slight burning feel, please comment!
Getting Answers from my Urologist
I am seeing my urologist tomorrow to get the stitches removed and of course I will ask him about the penis smell and possibility of infection. I will post his response and the results tomorrow, stay tuned.
update after visiting urologist
My urologist said its not an infection without conducting any tests He explained the smell/burning feeling would be more extreme if it was. He said the smell is from the lymph fluid that is leaking as it tends to have an unfavorable odor. So if you have some wet tissue or are leaking with a bit of a smell, it very well may not be an infection after all. I have also noticed (1-2 weeks later) that the smell is starting to disappear as the wet tissue reduces, and the fluid slows down on the leakage.
man i dont understand, when i was uncut, i never smelled down there, in fact i could just take 1 shower a week and still no smell at all, but now i got cut and ever since i got cut my penis seems to leek out, and then i take a shower in the morning by the end of the day from leeking a little it smells, wtf is up with me, i never use to smell at all, only after i got cut idk it just drips drips drips
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that with these 2 new methods of circumcision you go to work the next a day,so for the precision cut wound you just need to smear petroleum jelly every day after shower.

ReplyDelete"Seroma" is a word I've heard once or twice when looking up for the discharge. Day before yesterday, my penis looked great, clean as a whistle, I had my GP look at it (on day 8) and he said it's one of the cleanest circumcisions he's ever seen, then today (day 10) it's gunky and a bit fishy, but a shower clears it up temporarily. The problem if exacerbated by the fact the swelling causes my shaft skin to roll forward, making the wound face my glans, combined with sharp irritable suture tails. Again, all normal really.
I hope the dissolvable sutures come out soon and the swelling goes down, it's driving me crazy.

ReplyDeleteRang NHS direct and they got me an out of hours appt. to be looked over by a GP when leaking from the wound got worse. No smell and the discharge was clear and sticky, and he said it looks quite infected. Recommendatory I don't bathe or shower more than once a day as this can aggravate things, and prescribed me antibiotics. Stitches are all in at this point, 11 days, for me. They are driving me up the wall.
I've just read your experience of this procedure and I feel very relieved at what I'm reading , I was starting to panic a bit I'm on day 9 of my circumcision and although I bathe in salt water twice a day I can't seem to cope with the smell , it's a huge experience for a guy to go through and to have this blog is amazing , many thanks to you .

ReplyDeleteI have had my circumcision done 5 days ago now. My main issue has to be that I have ripped out sutures on both sides, where this has happend im getting a yellow liquid on my gauze that is rapped around. This liquid smells kind of cheesy I have been washing 2 times a day as recommended. Any Ideas? Thanks
ReplyDeleteSame thing, it's like oozing a yellow cheesy/smelly substance from the underside of the head and I was quite concerned at first. Just glad that there are others I can relate to, I'm seeing a doctor in a couple of days just to double check it's not an infection so fingers crossed everything is fine. I'm on day 9 and all swelling and bruising has subsided, the stitches are still there but not painful, the glans isn't sensitive and peeling nicely so it should toughen up even more :) I suppose everyone heals at different rates so you shouldn't be worried if you're still quite swollen or bruised. My odour isn't so much a 'fishy' smell, I'd say it's more a penis smell, it's not that that's concerning me though it's more the oozing liquid that I'm panicking about. Also when I shower I occasionally catch the stitches or healing flesh with the water and it causes it so reopen slightly and bleed but I'm assuming that's natural? Finally, I've stopped having trouble sleeping due to nocturnal erections, I found it's best to sleep with no underwear and just lie on your side on top of your bed cover, if you get cold just fold the cover over you but not so it fully wraps you up, hope this helped :)
ReplyDeleteI'm on day 11 and 80% of the swelling is gone but I can only see the head of my penis. There is also the foul fluid coming out from around the head (meaning where I can't see). I have consulted a friend who who went for circum 6 months ago and according to him all this normal. Also this noctarnal erections is the pits and I have never seen my stitches. Has anybody else had it like this?
ReplyDeleteI'm 29 years old. I got cut on friday sept29. bc of tight foreskin. (not by choice :-/ - @jason - it truly is an experience for a guy to go through. I had no choice but to cut otherwise I would of left it. It's day 4 for me, no yellow stuff coming out. I still keep a gauze wrapped around which helps with the discomfort of the stitches rubbing against my boxers. (Smell Topic) I too have an bad odor, I would of though it's bc something that's been covered so long cannot have a bright smell to it. I'm thinking within time it will go away. but if the Urologist says it's from the lymph fluids then I feel more at ease. It was not an easy decision for me to do this and i finally grew the strength to go ahead with it. So for those are are having 2nd thoughts my suggestion is this: (If it's for cosmetic reasons- don't do it. Why try to fix something that's not broken) For Phimosis patience or other problems that are forcing you to do it. JUST DO IT. Your prolonging your agony. I have to say all and all- I have had no pain whatsoever and if you do have pain, then take a pill. the needle for the anesthesia was the worse part lol. Good Luck

ReplyDeleteI am 22 and had to get circumcised due to severe phimosis. I am on day 6 and wound has started to heal. the stitches are still there and swelling has started to reduce. but now I am leaking a yellow colored thick fluid and I have no idea what the hell is that.
But to be extremely truthful circumcision was never painful. not even a little bit. a little discomfort due to nocturnal erections and 1st day was little tough. But its fun to get through the healing period.
Day 5, it's getting to be uncomfortable and im gaining pain. all i want to do is just sit down. The stitches that rub against my boxers hurt. any suggestions? Today is actually the first day i'm going without any gauze around my penis. yellow fluid very little if any at all. I hope it just starts to get better, can't wait for the stitches to disolve b.c its starting not to be pleasant at all. last i posted was on sept 30th 2 comments up.

ReplyDeleteI'm 36 and had full circumcision due to Lichen Sclerosis on 20/09/13 so 13 days in now. Generally I'm really pleased with everything from the NHS and I think the surgeon was excellent but these forums are so important in sharing issues and experiences that no-one ever tells you about on the day.
I have had very little pain or real discomfort from the start although I think I may be lucky. I took the gauze and dressing off after a day as it was soaked in dry blood and I was concerned at how much urine was getting into the dressing. Since then I've showered once a day and also done a salt water rinse once a day, just really trying the keep the stitching clean and dry.
I kept an eye on blogs from the start and this has stopped me worrying about small things like the ridiculous spray I get when pissing although this is getting better as swelling recedes (still sitting down though for now). Yesterday (day 12) I did a little research as I noticed that the area is more moist than previously and I've also got a pretty rank smell developing - apparently this is normal although I will see someone after a couple of days if this doesn't change.
I am gym enthusiast and really miss the exercise. I am struggling sitting still for so long but will try to wait until at least next week to do light training - no point in risking infection.
The only real discomfort I have is the sensitivity from the newly exposed glands rubbing on boxers but I gather this will sort itself out - it can be very uncomfortable. Otherwise I'm really pleased so far and I'm told by friends and family who've had adult circumcision that it has really been worth it so brave the 30 days and keep clean and dry.
Day 10. Erections at night wake me up, To solve just go pee and it'll go down. Annoying because I wake up a few times from an erection but it's getting better. Last night only woke up once Stitches look like they are disolving, some long loose ends which become hard and pinched me were cut off. It sorta looks like the remander of the stitches are falling apart and seems easy to pull but I will not tempt to do that. Making my appointment to my Urologist to see what he has to say about my healing process. One Concern I have is that my penis seems smaller now without the foreskin. I know it's the same size but it doesn't seem that way. I was considering doing another surgery to make the penis length longer. I heard they snip a ligament which holds the penis up while erected and it'll bring your penis out another inch or two. results vary. HEard there are many bad side affects to this but don't all porn stars do this? Has anyone done it? can anyone give me their inside experience on this. Thank you , this forum has been so helpfull
ReplyDeleteI had it done last sunday the 10/6 with the use of something called an alisklamp. It's not always possible with adults but my surgeon told me he could do it for me. He said the benefits were that the wound was completely closed off and there was no need for cleaning it or getting bandages on it. I could shower as normal or take a bath.
ReplyDeleteAfter 3 days of night time erection horror I called the clinic to ask when I could take the damned thing off and the nurse on the phone said 72 hours at least. The little tube that was over the tip of my head rubbed against the stitch where he cut my frenulum. So I waited till Wednesday afternoon to start taking it off. Took a bath to loosen skin etc. Was quite the challenge to get it off but I finally did. I noticed a a ring of black skin about 3-4 mm wide where my skin had been enclosed in the contraption. It looked necrotic like the way a baby's umbilical cord looks after a while.
After the day I took it up I noticed severe swelling between the scar line and the head (notice i dont have any stitches though aside from the one)
on the side of my frenulum. There's also quite a bit of black tissue there and it oozes clear liquid (not foul or anything) That swelling really doesn't hurt all that much, it just looks bad. The swelling on top and below the scar line (so untouched skin) is what hurts like a #%$^%. Also when I rub a q-tip between that top skin and my shaft they always return bloody and funny smelling. Soaked in a bath a few times to try and get it cleaned but it doesn't help much and is really sore. the black skin on top is turning white now and I've read from other people's experiences that this is a good sign and it means it's dying even more and will start to peel off.
I'm pretty worried about the fact I can't seem to stay on my feet for longer than 15 min without getting a massive swelling.. the skin on top below the scar and the skin on the bottom between the scar and the head seem to swell up to almost the size of the head itself... It's painful and it only goes away after laying flat on my back for a while with my parts held straight up. I'm going to contact my doc about this tomorrow and ask him what's up and email him some pics. I'll let people know how it works out for me so it ads to the info on your blog.

I'm on day 10 and still haven't seen my stitches at all, the extra skin on the shaft folds over and partially covers the glans, I'm afraid to pull it back but I want to see the stitches to know if they're coming out, has anyone else had a circumcision like this and what did you do to know the stitches were out?
